Abstract

The Emptiness Machine, a song by the band Linkin Park, is analyzed in its sonic narrative structure, drawing on storytelling concepts such as the alternation between tension and release and the modulation of the listener's emotions through sound-based plot twists. Its intensity is mapped using spectrograms, identifying manipulations of emotional expectations in the variations of vocal and instrumental intensity, analogous to the emotional shifts characteristic of literary and audiovisual narratives.
