Specialized nursing terminology for the care of elderly people with Diabetes Mellitus

Objective: To build a specialized nursing terminology for the care to the elderly person with Diabetes Mellitus, within the scope of primary care. Method: Methodological study carried out in three stages: 1) identification of terms and/or concepts of professional Nursing language about elderly people with Diabetes Mellitus, in the context of PHC; 2) cross-mapping of terms identified with ICNP® terms and 3) classification of identified terms according to the ICNP® Seven-Axis Model version 2019/2020. Results: Were identified 835 terms and after manual selection resulted in 184 terms, the which were mapped with the ICNP ® and analyzed according to the degree of equivalence, resulting in 125 (67.9%) constant terms, 98 (53.3%) with equivalence degree 1 and 98 (53.3%) with equivalence degree 2; and 98 (53.3%) did not constant, 23 (12.5%) with degree of equivalence 3, 18 (9.7%) with degree of equivalence 4 and 18 (9.7%) with degree of equivalence 5. Conclusion: It was built a specialized nursing terminology for obtaining knowledge on important concepts for nursing practice for elderly people with Diabetes Mellitus in Primary Health Care.
