Abstract

Objective: to report a case of pelvic Schwannoma in an adult woman and surgical management. Case report: female patient, 57 years old, presenting bulging in the right region of the pelvis associated with local pain, irradiation to the lumbar region and paresis in the lower limbs that lasted five months. On physical examination, a palpable, painless mass measuring approximately 5 cm and of fibroelastic consistency was identified in the right lower quadrant of the abdomen. The patient underwent resection of the retroperitoneal tumor, followed by dissection in planes with exposure of the spinous processes, laminae, and joints of L3-S1, with difficulty due to the volume of the tumor mass and infiltration at the spinal level. Even with the anatomopathological examination suggesting a diagnosis of undifferentiated pleomorphic sarcoma, cytomorphological and immunohistochemical examinations confirmed the diagnosis of Schwannoma, presenting S-100 as the tumor cells and not identifying CD117 (KIT) and EMA (MUC1) cells.
