Abstract

Objective: To report the experience of physiotherapy intervention in pain management in Primary Health Care. Methods: This is a descriptive study, of the experience report type, resulting from a physiotherapy internship in a program called the Pain Clinic, a pioneering project of the multiprofessional residency in family health at the State University of Piauí, applied in a Basic Health Unit in the municipality of Teresina - Piauí, which consisted of specialized and individualized care for patients with chronic pain, rheumatological diseases, and chronic trauma-orthopedic diseases. The supervised internship took place from August to December 2024, with two weekly meetings. Patients were referred to the physiotherapy clinic after spontaneous demand by the multiprofessional team of residents at the Basic Health Unit. Results: In the outpatient clinic, a physiotherapy assessment was applied, subdivided into two processes: the first consisting of a complete anamnesis, the second entirely focused on pain analysis. The outpatient clinic brought an innovative perspective to physiotherapy care in Primary Care with specialized and individualized sessions, and thus gradually managed to overcome some of the obstacles encountered at the beginning of the project. Conclusion: It is concluded that the internship at the Pain Clinic provided a unique learning experience, knowledge exchange, and care focused on patients with chronic pain, contributing to improved quality of life and reduction of pain.
