The adoption of quality standards in nursing practice is a fundamental strategy for promoting safe, effective, and person-centred care. This article discusses the contributions of the Best Practice Guidelines of the Registered Nurses’ Association of Ontario (RNAO) and the Best Practice Spotlight Organizations (BPSO) movement to strengthening evidence-based practice and quality of care. These initiatives support the implementation of evidence-based clinical recommendations, the development of nursing leadership, the promotion of a patient safety culture, and the continuous improvement of care processes. Furthermore, they emphasize the importance of strategies that ensure the sustainability of changes, such as training clinical leaders, using implementation tools, and monitoring quality indicators. The article highlights that technical excellence must be associated with the humanization of care, recognizing the person as the protagonist of decisions related to their health. It concludes that the transformation of health systems depends on professionals’ daily commitment to incorporating evidence-based practices, ethics, and continuous improvement, making safe, humanized, and high-quality care an essential principle of contemporary healthcare.
