SOCIAL INSURANCE FOR WHOM? REFLECTIONS ON THE INDIGENOUS SOCIAL (IN) SECURITY IN BRAZIL

The present article has the objective to discuss social insurance actions and programs intended for the indigenous peoples, focusing on the Brazilian social security issue, analyzing the scope and difficulties faced by these groups in obtaining social security benefits. Therefore, it starts with considerations on the Brazilian social insurance system, it analyzes the indigenous peoples' situation in Brazil, with reflections on the violations and discriminations, throughout time, and finally, it discusses the Indians’ inclusion in the social security system and its compliance with the constitutional postulate of the indigenous peoples' self-determination. In the methodology, the study resorted to the bibliographic research method, from the deductive reasoning and the hermeneutic and critical/dialectical approach methods.
