REFORMA DA PREVIDÊNCIA E MÍDIA: INTERESSES FINANCEIROS, DÍVIDA PÚBLICA E A CONSTRUÇÃO DO CONSENSO NO GOVERNO BOLSONARO
Abstract
This article critically analyzes the media coverage of the Pension Reform (EC No. 103/2019)
during Jair Bolsonaro's government, investigating its relationship with the interests of the
Brazilian financial elite and the impacts of public debt on Social Security financing. Employing
a bibliographic and documentary methodology, with a predominantly qualitative approach and
quantitative data, the study examines media support for the reform, Maria Lúcia Fattorelli's
analysis of public debt, economic policies involving interest rates and tax exemptions, and the
socioeconomic and legal impacts of the changes. Grounded in the reflections of Jessé Souza
and Marilena Chaui, it concludes that the media played a crucial role in legitimizing a reform
that, under the guise of fiscal balance, favored the financial sector at the expense of social rights,
highlighting the need for media democratization and public debt auditing to ensure social
justice.
