O DIREITO À ALIMENTAÇÃO E O PAPEL DOS AGROTÓXICOS: COMO O USO DE DEFENSIVOS AGRÍCOLAS NO CAMPO BRASILEIRO INFLUENCIA O DIREITO À ALIMENTAÇÃO
Abstract
This research aims to draw a parallel between the right to adequate food and the use of pesticides; thus, it seeks to understand the role of pesticides for the realization of a fundamental right provided for in the Brazilian Constitution. The article is developed through documentary research that seeks to trace the historical role of pesticides in the search for the achievement of the right to adequate food. To do so, the article start’s with an analysis of the right to adequate food, inserted in the Brazilian constitutional context, so that, through the comprehension achieved on this right, it is possible to verify what effectively represent its achievement. Then, an analysis is made on food regimes to contextualize the beginning and the increase on the use of pesticides in food production, in accordance with the theory developed by Philip McMichael. Finally, the article check how the corporate diet regime and the mass use of pesticides influence the realization of the right to adequate food. The conclusion, through the analysis carried out, is that the massive use of pesticides constitutes an obstacle to the realization of the right to adequate food, considering that it hampers the food security and food sovereignty. The social implication of the research developed through this article deserves a highlight seeing that the massive application of pesticides harms the struggle for healthy food for the people and a sovereign regime for the country.
