The important role of the State in terms of economic, political and social performance during
the sec. XX triggered a series of actions favorable and contrary to the diverse ideological
inclinations in capitalism. This article aims to analyze the state role for social well-being in
the midst of the paradigm of the capitalist society of the century. XX, revisiting several
contributions from the perspective of its defenders and opponents, based on the premise that
the State must face the complex process which implies the interaction of different social
structures, as well as the consequences, and their consequences on citizens, in their basic
human needs, and the way that it all interacts in social welfare.
