Role of physiotherapy in palliative care in oncology: an integrative review

Objective: To analyze the literature on the role of physical therapy in cancer patients with no chance of survival. Methods: This is an integrative, descriptive review. For this study, the following databases were used: PubMed, Scielo, and BVS, up to June 2025. Articles available in full and published between 2020 and 2025, in Portuguese, English, and Spanish, were included in the selection. One of the search strategies adopted was (physiotherapy) AND (oncology) AND (palliative care) in the databases. Results: A total of 451 articles were found, with only 9 articles included in the final sample. The main interventions found were categorized as: Use of transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation; Palliative care in primary care; Functional rehabilitation; Therapeutic exercises; Respiratory exercises; Aerobic training; Ethical Issues and Family Support Conclusion: Physical therapy in oncology palliative care proves to be an essential tool for promoting quality of life, alleviating symptoms, and preserving the dignity of patients with no chance of cure.
