INCLUSION OF THE DEAF COMMUNITY THROUGH INFORMATION AND COMMUNICATION TECHNOLOGIES IN THE VIRTUAL SPACE
Abstract
Historically, people with deafness face numerous difficulties in entering and communicating with society in various environments. With technological advances, it has been possible to break through some of these unique barriers, such as access to written content, building apps that translate to pounds, and self-service. However, the migration from written to audiovisual media still has flaws, such as the absence of subtitles and interpreter windows, creating an adversity for this community. These existing barriers can be remedied with new information and communication technologies that correct and give real access to the deaf community, with breadth of content and no loss of information in the translation from Portuguese to pounds, as still occurs in some applications.
