Social security is an institute that aims to guarantee the population material conditions worthy of human survival. In the Welfare State, it is essential that the State assumes an intervening role in the regulation of social rights and guarantees, seeking to mitigate inequalities and the deepening of misery. Brazil, however, influenced by the neoliberal international scenario, underwent a recent pension reform (2019), which made access to benefits difficult and extended the contribution time of workers. And, in the same sense, Covid-19 - characterized by the biggest health crisis in Brazil - hit the economy and society in order to widen financial inequalities and open up the social security problems faced by the country. Thus, the general objective of this work is to understand the impact of Covid-19 on social security in the context of the economic crisis experienced by Brazil. The specific objectives of this work are (i) the analysis of the Brazilian social security institute; (ii) understand the changes related to the 2019 pension reform; and (iii) verify if the measures adopted during Covid-19 were effective in the social protection sought by the social security institute. The methodology used to understand the subject is based on research with an analytical purpose, with a descriptive objective and a deductive method of knowledge, through bibliographic procedures of the specialized literature on Social Security Law. Thus, the main expected contribution is to verify if the principle of prohibition of social regression is being violated due to an alleged financial balance of the Brazilian State.
