CITIZENSHIP DENIED: DISRESPECT FOR THE RIGHT TO LAND AND CULTURAL DIVERSITY OF INDIGENOUS PEOPLES
Abstract
The present study aims to understand the denial of citizenship to indigenous peoples, especially in relation to cultural rights and access to land in the Brazilian context. To achieve the proposed objective, we seek to dialogue with literature and relate it to events in Brazilian history. Methodologically, this is a bibliographical and hypothetical-deductive research that seeks to answer the following question: How does denied citizenship impact the lives of indigenous peoples? At the end of this study, it is considered that citizenship was denied to indigenous peoples through ethnocide, the non-demarcation of indigenous lands and the violation of rights conquered through historical struggles, negatively impacting the lives of indigenous peoples. However, there have been significant advances in recent times, as well as setbacks that prevent indigenous people from living in accordance with their cultural aspects.
